Good to know
- Lossless optimization is tried first. Photos are recompressed only as much as needed to fit — text, fonts and vector graphics are never changed.
- Sizes use 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, so the result is accepted whether an upload form counts 1 KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.
- Some targets can't be reached without visible loss (for example, many large photos into 100 KB). The report shows exactly what changed, and you get the smallest result if the target isn't reachable.
Frequently asked questions
Will the quality change?
Text, fonts and vector graphics are never changed. We first optimize the file losslessly; only if that isn't enough are photos recompressed, and only as much as needed to fit. The report lists exactly what was changed.
What if my PDF can't reach the size?
Some documents — for example many high-resolution photos — can't fit a very small limit without visible loss. You'll get the smallest version we could make, and you can allow converting pages to images as a last resort.
Is 100 KB counted as 100,000 or 102,400 bytes?
We aim for 100,000 bytes or less, so the file is accepted by upload forms that use either definition.
Is Reduce PDF to Exact Size private?
Yes. This tool runs entirely in your web browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.
Is there a file size limit?
Without an account you can process files up to 50 MB. Paid plans raise the limits.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It works in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
